Telly Mikel - Instructor

Telly Mikel has a basketball history with a number of great experiences starting from his high school career to his involvement today at TIBBS.

He finished his career at Madison High School as the 2nd all-time leading scorer.  From there he attended Dakota State University before transferring to Black Hills State University where he was a member of both basketball programs.  Following his playing career, he began his coaching career at Southern Oregon University under former Univ. of South Dakota standout Brian McDermott.

He was an assistant coach at the Univ. of Sioux Falls for three years on Shane Murphy’s staff. During his time as an assistant, the Cougars set the record for wins in a season, won two conference titles, and made two national tournament appearances.

Telly also was an assistant at Roosevelt High School for three seasons.  During that time, he also created a summer traveling team called the Outlaws: Citizens of the World.  The Outlaws were formed with the mission to fight racism.  For his efforts, Telly was nominated by Senator Daschle for the Lewis Hine Award, which recognizes five individuals nationally that have volunteered their time with youth.

Telly resides in Sioux Falls and pursues music endeavors as well as being an integral part of TIBBS Basketball.
