 Shane Murphy is the head coach at Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, SD. After a stint away from coaching, he took over the Tigers program which competes in the GPAC of the NAIA.
Following the 2008 year, Murphy retired as the all-time winningest coach in the University of Sioux Falls men’s basketball program history. Under Murphy’s tutelage, the Cougars tallied a record of 142-60 (76-28 GPAC) and a winning percentage of .703. He led USF to the NAIA National Tournament four times, including a trip to the NAIA Final Four in the 2003-04 season.
Coach Murphy began his collegiate playing days at Drake University, and transferred to the University of South Dakota in the fall of 1992. In 1994, Murphy earned All-North Central Conference and All-Academic
honors. Also in ’94, the Coyotes won the conference and regional titles and advanced to the Elite 8 round of the national tournament for the second straight year. Murphy began his coaching career at the University of South Dakota as an assistant coach.
Shane resides in Mitchell with his wife, Jill, and daughters, Allison and Emma.
